Tips remote selection

3 of February, 2025

The covid-19 has changed many aspects of our lives, including the workplace. However, not all news is bad, as this pandemic has driven companies to make the leap towards digitalization. This year, we have fully devoted ourselves to the intensive use of digital tools for remote work, thereby transforming the HR world.

Both the staff selection and the recruitment of talented staff have had to adapt to changes in those companies that have chosen to continue their commercial activity. Teleworking has granted us greater comforts and flexibilities, but also challenges and headaches: How can you select a candidate without knowing them personally? The remote selection process for the remote work modality is presenting a number of challenges, but luckily, we have the answers!

What is the remote selection process about?

Due to the covid-19 crisis, the human resources department has had to adapt to the situation, making it common for companies to need new employees to join remotely. This context seems to be here to stay, so the human resources department should have the necessary tools to manage staff under these new working conditions, such as using reliable HR software.

A remote selection process, although it limits physical contact and all the information it provides, also allows a more efficient focus on what really matters. Additionally, it provides advantages such as eliminating unnecessary travel, supporting necessary material, immediate communication with candidates… Using the right tools, this selection process does not have to be inferior to an in-person one.

The selection and hiring process in remote work modality

If your company is 100% sure it needs to recruit talent to work remotely and the HR department has the necessary tools, it’s time to get to work!

Where and how to find talent to work remotely?

Obviously, you need to resort to digital media to find this kind of candidate. Social networks, online bulletin boards… Ideally, one should focus on specialized social networks, such as LinkedIn where you can access the profiles of thousands of candidates for free, publish ads, filter candidates…

Scheduling the job interview

Once CV’s of interest have been selected, it’s time to make contact and arrange a video call for the job interview. This tool will allow us to get to know the candidates in a way closer than written communication.

It’s crucial to choose the right platform for the interview. There are many video call tools on the market, so you will have to select the one that best suits the needs of the interview.

At this point, apart from the basic aspects, we recommend you pay special attention to the candidate’s response time to emails and how they do it, their competence with technology to conduct the interview (are they good with the software? do they appear comfortable?), as well as their presentation and punctuality. The image they project, how they express themselves, or even the information gleaned from their surroundings can be decisive factors between one candidate and another.

The moment of hiring

You’ve finally found the ideal candidate! As would happen with in-person work, now it’s time to add them to the company roster. For this, all the necessary paperwork has to be done, contracts signed, insurances taken out…

The remote work modality permits all these procedures to be conducted digitally, making the process much faster, especially if a document manager is used.

Induction in remote work

The final step is to welcome the remote worker and begin work, but this step also needs to be carefully managed! For this, an employee induction or onboarding process for remote work needs to be in place.

In this employee onboarding process, we recommend paying special attention to the following points: explain and transmit the company culture, carry out a virtual tour if possible, schedule tasks for the first week, clarify expectations and define a series of start-up tasks for the first few weeks.

As you can see, although hiring a remote worker might initially appear complicated, the reality is that it’s a process that can be done quite quickly if you have the necessary tools, like Sesame hiring, with which you’ll improve your employees’ experience in recruitment and selection processes.
