Time is an important resource to every business. However, managing employee time is harder than it looks. The more work a business has to do, the more important it is to efficiently track time. Keep reading and discover how a modern employee time card can help businesses manage time and reduce absenteeism.

What is an employee time card?

An employee time card, also referred to as an employee timesheet, is a time tracking system that records and tracks the amount of time employees put in during a work period. This software tracks each job or task undertaken and record how much time each employee puts into each assigned task.

Timesheets were initially used by employers to track employee time and attendance for hourly payments. With this system, an employer knows exactly how many hours each employee has worked. This makes payments much easier. Today though, time sheets are used for much more than just payroll.

5 reasons to use a time tracking system

  1. They make paying employees easier

Payroll was what employee timesheets were initially used for. While these documents are used for a lot more than that these days, time cards still come in handy when making payments. With an employee timesheet, you have a record of how much time each employee spent on the job and so can easily make payments.

  1. They help with automated payments

Timesheets are also great for automated billing. By making the time spent on each task visible, automated payment solutions can easily make calculations based on each employee’s hourly rates and make the required payments. This reduces your business’s organization cost, saving you some money in the process.

  1. They help you monitor your employees’ productivity

Employee time cards typically record when an employee begins working on a task and when they finish. With this, you can find out how much work each employee is really putting in and easily tell which employees are being productive and which aren’t.

  1. They help you distribute resources more efficiently

Employee time cards help businesses discover which tasks are more time-consuming and which ones aren’t. By being able to determine this, you can more efficiently distribute your resources, assigning more employees to those tasks that take more time and assigning less to those that require less.

  1. They show which employees are slacking off

Your employee time cards tell you more than just which employees are underperforming. They also tell you things like which employees are clocking in late, which employees are delaying their tasks, and so on. Basically, they show you which employees are slacking off.

Employee time cards then and now

Employee time cards used to be just that ─ physical cards used for employee time tracking. Today, however, these traditional timesheets are an outdated method of tracking employee time. Modern time cards aren’t physical cards or sheets, but software solutions.

These digital timesheets simplify the employee time tracking process, and makes it easy for you to access them anytime and anywhere, all from the comfort of your mobile device. This way you can follow your employee time cards in real-time, no matter where you are.
