Steps company onboarding

6 of February, 2025

Knowing the steps of a company’s onboarding plan dedicated to new employees is vital. Essentially, this is a strategy or document that should adapt to the various needs of the worker, but also the company. Making an onboarding plan for a multinational corporation is not the same as for a small business.

For this reason, it is necessary, before drafting such a document, to analyze the actual company’s needs for a specific position and how to quickly integrate an employee so that their effectiveness quickly stands out, and so that the new talent feels comfortable and fully supported.

What is the company’s onboarding plan?

The company’s onboarding plan is a document, as we have already mentioned, which is prepared by the company. It includes all the fundamental information about the organization and the specific job for which the new talent has been hired.

It serves to create an excellent work environment from the start of the employment relationship, increasing productivity and the hiring of skilled and talented professionals. The objectives of the onboarding plan include:

  • Help the employee adapt so that, from their first day, they feel welcome, useful, motivated, and an important part of the project.
  • Determine what the employee and the company expect and know their objectives.
  • Increase the degree of involvement from the beginning of belonging to the company.
  • Improves considerably the image of the company that is projected externally.

Advantages of following the onboarding plan steps

Every company must project a good image, but not just focusing on their potential customers, but also their current and future employees; they will be the best brand ambassadors. Besides this, you will directly benefit the company, due to motivated and dedicated workers, the level of production will be much more efficient.

Some of the most noticeable benefits of a good company onboarding plan include:

  • Involvement in business projects grows.
  • The workers’ adaptation time is shorter.
  • The adaptation process is organized because the company holds the information it receives from the new employee under control.
  • The employee’s production is noticed faster.
  • It optimizes internal communication between members of the same department and with those from other sections of the entity in question.

Steps to elaborate a company’s onboarding plan

Firstly, we must think about the information the new member needs to be aware of, which helps facilitate their daily task and allows them to contribute to the company. For this reason, the first thing to consider is what to convey and how to do it. Communication always counts.

Secondly, consider who will be in charge of executing and monitoring the project. In other words, a tutor should be assigned to the onboarding plan to welcome the new talent.

And, thirdly, we must establish when it will be carried out, as it can be applied to new hires that have been relocated by the company within the same headquarters to other departments or, sent to other cities. Lastly, the duration of the onboarding plan should also be set.

Implementation phases

The onboarding plan begins from the selection process, however, the onboarding plan consists of three parts: welcome, integration, and follow-up.

  • Welcome: The new employee is given an overview of how the different company areas operate and the company’s overall objectives.
  • Integration: Here we should start to outline the information that was shown during the interview. The position’s objectives, those of the department in general, and the methods executed to achieve success are defined.
  • Follow-up: An evaluation of how the new talent is performing in their job is made. Their strong points will be taken into account and they will be offered some tips to optimize their work.

Essentially, the company’s onboarding plan for a new employee is fundamental for the same’s retention. It also greatly helps the productivity level that workers generally have in a company and their loyalty towards it.
